Building Green, Building Hope
Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is committed to building more than affordable homes—we’re building a sustainable future. Through our
Green Building Initiatives, we integrate energy-efficient and environmentally responsible practices into every Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity home and repair project. From Energy Star-rated windows and doors to spray foam insulation, efficient HVAC systems, and energy-saving appliances, these improvements lower utility costs, reduce carbon emissions, and create healthier, more sustainable homes for families in our community.
But we’re not stopping there. With your support, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity homes can go beyond being “solar ready” to generating clean, renewable energy. Through our
Carbon Offset Initiative and Habitat Solar Fund, you can help install solar arrays on Habitat homes—projects that families could not otherwise afford. These solar systems reduce CO₂ emissions for decades while saving homeowners money on energy bills every month.
Want to make that flight carbon neutral? Instead of sending money to a faraway offset project, you can invest right here in the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity community:
- Find the CO₂ emissions of your flight or activity (in kilograms)
- Multiply by $0.22 per kilogram CO₂
- Donate that amount to the Habitat Solar Fund
For example, a one-way flight from New York to Los Angeles emits
311 kg CO₂. Offsetting that flight costs just
$68, which directly supports solar installation on local Habitat homes.
Your gift—whether supporting energy-efficient building practices, offsetting your carbon emissions through solar, or both—makes a lasting impact. Together, we can build affordable homes that are healthier for families, friendlier to the planet, and stronger for our community.
