Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is proud to offer a new learning experience for women in the Johnson County area: The Women's Home Improvement Confidence Course. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to do various home improvement tasks in a safe, nonjudgmental environment as we remodel an Iowa City home. This series of Saturday classes will introduce you to the challenges and obstacles you will face in a real-world remodeling environment. This is an à la carte course, so you can attend the Saturdays that fit in with your schedule and what you would like to learn. You will get hands-on experience with:

    Demolishing and remodeling a kitchen
    Major and minor drywall repair
Tiling and grouting a kitchen backsplash
    Shower tiling
Replacing ceiling fans and light fixtures
Replacing interior and exterior doors and jambs
    Trim and finish work
    Installing various types of flooring
    Plum, square, and level
Sequencing of improvements--quite possibly the most important aspect of any remodel
    And much more!

The series cost is $250 and is composed of 11 Saturdays beginning January 11th and ending March 21st. Each work day will run from 8am to 5pm with a one-hour break for lunch from 12pm to 1pm. Once an individual is registered, they will receive an email with the password necessary to sign up for individual classes, as well as general course information. For questions, please contact Leda Rouse with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity at leda@iowavalleyhabitat.org or (319) 337-8949.

In Support of Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity
We envision a world in which each person has a decent place to live. Locally, we partner with both current and future homeowners, local businesses, residents, and social service organizations to construct and renovate safe, decent, affordable housing in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, and Washington Counties.  We also secure affordable financing so that homeowners in our program save thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage.   Globally, we work to remove barriers to decent housing by supporting Global Village trips and tithing to Habitat for Humanity global builds.  Together with our community, Habitat homeowners gain the strength, stability, and self-reliance needed to build better lives and stronger communities.
