  • Building Green, Building Hope

Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is committed to building more than affordable homes—we’re building a sustainable future. Through our Green Building Initiatives, we integrate energy-efficient and environmentally responsible practices into every Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity home and repair project. From Energy Star-rated windows and doors to spray foam insulation, efficient HVAC systems, and energy-saving appliances, these improvements lower utility costs, reduce carbon emissions, and create healthier, more sustainable homes for families in our community.

    Solar Energy Fund

Did you know Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity has started building homes that are “solar-ready”? This means that Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity homes are built with the wiring and infrastructure needed to accommodate solar panels in the future—without requiring costly renovations. You can help us with the next step: turning these homes from “solar-ready” to"solar-powered.” Designate your gift to the Solar Energy Fund to support the installation costs of solar panel arrays on Habitat homes.

You can also consider a Carbon Offset Initiative to compensate for CO₂ emissions from your flights or other carbon-intensive activities by contributing to the Solar Energy Fund. Learn more about the Carbon Offset Initiative and access the carbon offset calculator to determine your suggested donation to our Solar Energy Fund by visiting https://www.habitatsolar.org/.

Your gift—whether supporting energy-efficient building practices, offsetting your carbon emissions through solar, or both—makes a lasting impact. Together, we can build affordable homes that are healthier for families, more environmentally friendly, and stronger for our community.

In Support of Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity
We envision a world in which each person has a decent place to live. Locally, we partner with both current and future homeowners, local businesses, residents, and social service organizations to construct and renovate safe, decent, affordable housing in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, and Washington Counties.  We also secure affordable financing so that homeowners in our program save thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage.   Globally, we work to remove barriers to decent housing by supporting Global Village trips and tithing to Habitat for Humanity global builds.  Together with our community, Habitat homeowners gain the strength, stability, and self-reliance needed to build better lives and stronger communities.
