ABOUT DR. CHRISTINE GRANT: Christine Grant became the first women's athletic director at Iowa in 1973, a post she held until her retirement in 2000. After her retirement, Iowa merged its men's and women's athletic departments as one.

Grant is best known for her fight for gender equity in athletics. She testified before Congress several times and served as a consultant for the Civil Rights Title IX Task Force. She was a founding member of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women and served in a variety of leadership roles with that organization. She also has held several positions with the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA), including the presidency from 1987-89. Grant has held many leadership positions and received numerous awards and honors as an advocate of gender equity in sports.

In 2013, we honored Dr. Christine Grant with our annual Women Build project. As a Title IX defender and pioneer, Christine Grant was a clear choice. That same year, we hosted a 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for the Christine Grant Women Build project and have since hosted this annual event in honor of Dr. Grant.

ABOUT JANE HAGEDORN: This year marks the 12th Women Build for Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity and honoree, Jane Hagedorn, has played an essential role in each and every one of them; from serving on the Women Build steering committee each year to providing plumbing labor with Bea Day Plumbers on every Women Build. Jane took on the immense responsibility of Project Manager of IVHFH's very first Women Build in 2004. In short, we would not be where we are today celebrating 29 years of building without Jane Hagedorn.

ABOUT WOMEN BUILD: Women Build gathers women in the community to raise funds to build an energy efficient home with a family in need of affordable homeownership. Women Build also supports home repairs for low-income homeowners through IVHFH's Helping Hands program. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and Women Build helps IVHFH to support this mission through fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer recruitment. The goal of the Women Build is NOT meant to exclude men, but to include women who may not feel comfortable volunteering at a male-dominated construction site. This project also serves to highlight and honor the talented and hard-working women that work in construction trades. There are many other ways to participate throughout the year.

In Support of Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity
We envision a world in which each person has a decent place to live. Locally, we partner with both current and future homeowners, local businesses, residents, and social service organizations to construct and renovate safe, decent, affordable housing in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, and Washington Counties.  We also secure affordable financing so that homeowners in our program save thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage.   Globally, we work to remove barriers to decent housing by supporting Global Village trips and tithing to Habitat for Humanity global builds.  Together with our community, Habitat homeowners gain the strength, stability, and self-reliance needed to build better lives and stronger communities.
